Darling Hotbuns & I have been working industriously and laboriously — like army ants — on the new headquarters. We’re making significant renovations in each room, in every nook & cranny. One thing I have an aversion to is chintzy, shoddily made, lackluster, plain ole vanilla plastic switch plates. Just something as simple as switching out the light & outlet covers can give a room that much more of a kick of glamor or character! It’s one of the smallest things to do, but one that creates a very big impact!
I happen to be a behemoth fan of Etsy. If you’re following me on Twitter, you have already cracked that code. ::giggle:: I’ve ordered many things off of Etsy, and thus far I haven’t one complaint! I am always pleased with the product & business. Any “mistake” that has ever happened has been on my end because I got I-HAVE-TO-HAVE happy and didn’t read all the way through. All my purchases have been not only stellar, but unique, custom, and creative — three things I deeply value. I prefer owning individual artists’ & creator’s objet d’art over mass produced items from corporate franchises & factories, if feasible. Etsy is a one-stop-shop for that!

These are the light switch covers we got for Mini Maven’s bedroom, which were purchased from Switch Hits for just under $20 a piece.
The retro/mod light switch covers I got for Darling Hotbuns’ daughters’ room…… super keen, and purchased on Etsy for only $6.95 a piece!
Therefore, when DH & I started scheming about theme-ing the rooms out, OF COURSE I started poring over Etsy’s pages under “switch plates”. There’s well over 200 pages of ’em! For our more playful & lively rooms, I’ve been purchasing some plates via different creatives there. For our more “mature” rooms, we’ve gone a little more stately — like these solid bronze covers in antique copper:
These switch plates are all throughout our living room & kitchen. They were purchased through a large switch plate manufacturing company for quite a pretty penny, but we do love them so!
I just decided to drag out some switch plates that I have seen that I thought were peachy keen. For as many wickedly spiffy switch plates as Etsy has out there — and my OCD of asymmetry, notwithstanding — I could easily have a different outlet cover on every single one in the house! Some of our specialty switch plates & outlet covers are as spendthrift-y as $5 a pop, while others are as high as $35 a piece. Either way, it’s nice to know there are so many options out there; both in home improvement stores & online.
