A quick & flippin’ awesome reuse of your grandmother’s broken watches! I really lovelovelove this idea.
… Well, maybe not so much this past week. I’ve come down with a bear of a bacterial infection, very crotchety throat, & a case of curmudgeonly bronchitis, so I’ve basically spent the last 4 days in the sack, under the covers, watching flick after flick after flick. Typically I would read, but my head has been so foggy. (Right now I am watching Satisfaction — holy guacamole, I was obsessed with this movie when I was young! I wore that soundtrack cassette OUT 3x over (playing air cowbell)! I, strangely, at the time, identified with Mooch. #pleatherheather) But as much as I have been too drained for anything labor-intensive, I am a horrid sickling — I can’t stand feeling like my body can’t keep up with my mind or agenda. As grim as I feel, I am still fidgety like a caffeinated chihuahua. So I thought…
I could do mindless crafts from the comfort of my down comforter!
However, I am starting to pep up now that the antibiotics are kickin’ infection butt (!), so tomorrow I plan to get to the new headquarters to work on renovations come hell or high-water hipster britches. But I DID find some super simple & sparkletacular ideas that I thought I’d share with you. I’m going to keep these in a shoebox in my mind for the next time I’m feeling below par. They’d be a good distraction from feeble, but idle hands, and they aren’t going to take a lick of thinking (which I do little of with a feverish brain).
How many of these puppies do you have packed up somewhere? You could paint them fun, bright, retro colors! Enough of them and you could fill an entire shadowbox. Do a backsplash? Okay, okay, that may be the medication talkin’. (P.S. ~ This cassette is not painted, I realize, but this photo made me realize that it would be fun to!)
Decorated top hats! You could either decorate *real* ones, or you could make cardboard ones for play… The idea is to make something original or decorative. They don’t have to be anything fancy, you could Mod Podge or papier-mâché ’em. Anything goes!
Button necklaces! All those buttons you cut off the sleeves, throw into a stockpile somewhere, and then forget about when a button actually DOES fall off… Put them to use! This would be more fun than needlepoint. I don’t even know, is needlepoint fun? If I did needlepoint, it would end up out the second story window. #crosseyed
Everyday ornaments! They don’t have to be for *just* Christmas anymore! And yes I said everyday ornaments… My shrunken head ornaments stay up all year long, hanging from the key rack (with no keys). But you don’t have to paint these whacky faces, of course. You can paint rainbows and glitter and unicorns or whatever. Go at it, and let them reflect your own thang, mang.
More than turning old vinyl into clocks…… just works of art! I love this Keith Haring concept, but it could be absolutely ANYTHING. Imagine doing a whole wall of things that speak to and of you, especially around your living room dance floor. #harlemshakewhatyourmamagaveya
